It has been possible for an expatriate to purchase a property in Bahrain since 2001 after a royal declaration by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of the  Kingdom of Bahrain. The declaration endorsed and sanctioned in 2003 states that foreign buyers are allowed to buy property in certain areas of Bahrain where building zones are designated up to 10 storeys such as Reef Island in Manama, the capital city of the Kingdom.

The government has eased ownership restrictions to foreigners, thus granting rights to 100 percent foreign ownership for businesses in sectors that include real estate, manufacturing, information and communications, health and social work, technical activities and administrative services.

Now, foreigners can enjoy the same ownership rights which Bahrainis have. It is expected to bring a positive effect on the industry and on the -index of Facility of Starting Business, encourage global firms to establish business in Bahrain and generate more opportunities in GCC and the region.

The regulation is expected to contribute to long term developments and benefits, stimulate investor confidence and attract foreign companies to consider Bahrain as a base to establish a business; a much-needed stimulus in view of the slowing down of activities in the property market.

Foreign investors are advised to seek independent legal assistance throughout the entire purchase process. The legal property ownership rights in Bahrain are sophisticated and well developed, which will provide the purchaser with protection after permission to purchase has been granted and deeds of ownership have been transferred under the name of the investor.

Difaaf Reef Island offers foreigners first-class privileges and full assistance by property consultants and legal property specialists so that they can conduct the buying procedures with ease and confidence.
